Hi! I’m Aaron – I’m a personal trainer and fitness coach, among other things. I’m certified as a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise. I’m certified as a coach for “A Matter Of Balance”, an evidence based fall prevention program, and a certified Silver Sneakers instructor. I’m also trained in the Fit Body Boot Camp methodology, along with their nutritional coach course work, put on by Nutritional Coaching Institute.
My instrest in fitness comes from a few different places. I’ve been an athlete and a martial artist since I was 5 years old, starting with TaeKwonDo and soccer. I played four sports in high school: football, soccer, ice hockey and track.
In college and grad school, I played ice hockey for the University Of New Mexico and Stanford, respectively, and more recently, I returned to the track for the 2014 and 2016 Donate Life Transplant Games of America, where I won a bronze medal in the 100 meter dash (2014).
I have trained in several other martial arts, most importantly Shaolin and Wushu Kung Fu and several styles of Tai Chi and QiGong. Chinese martial arts and “alternative” wellness have always been passions. In fact I’m even a level one Reiki practicitioner! (That means I can treat myself.)
However, the Western approach, and specifically Western exercise science, became much more interesting to me in 2013. On July 4 of that year, I was the recipient of a double lung transplant, which needless to say saved my life. It also gave me an amazing new inside look at medical science, and I found myself fascinated with the rehab process and re-learning how to move and enjoy exercise. So once I recovered, and after a couple years of consideration, I made the leap and got my personal training certification from ACE.

I still work with a personal training studio called Upward Motion Personal Training, and since the COVID-19 pandemic relegated me to working from home, I’ve been concentrating on serving our clients there with overall fitness and weight loss goals. I teach high intensity interval classes, lead mindset lectures, do one-on-one coaching, and help people with accountability.
And of course – I’ve put together this site, where I’m building up blog posts and other content I hope helps you with whatever fitness journey you’re on.
